Kristina Reiko Cooper Feature Story Page 2

kristina reiko cooperIn addition to concert appearances, KRISTINA REIKO COOPER plans to expand her repertoire with the group from STONE and STEEL to create music inspired by music from the Middle East East (Israeli folksongs, Arabic songs), instrumental music from the area which is “so rife with creativity due to it being the focal point of so many cultures”,  she explained. She is also looking forward to performing a double concerto that has been written by Yosef Bardanashvilli for COOPER and “the father of Klezmer," Giora Feidman. The world premier of the piece will take place in April when  she will be appearing in concert with Continuum at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Cooper recounts, “It has been amazing fun working with Giora. Klezmer is something so different than what I have been trained to do—but it gets to the emotional touch point so quickly and exquisitely”.

COOPER has an extensive discography of CD and DVD recordings and has been featured on National Public Radio, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, NHK in Japan, KBS in Korea, WNYC and WQXR in New York City, as well as in television broadcasts for CNN, PBS, CBC Television, 60 Minutes, national Chinese television, as well as, on television stations in Korea and Japan.

When not on tour, Ms. Cooper is a Visiting Professor of Music at Hebrew University and Musical Co-Director of the Israel Chamber Music Society.

KRISTINA REIKO COOPER is someone to keep your  musical eye and ear on as she continues to grow and explore new ways of sharing her multi-faceted talent.
