Introducing Robin Mckelle

robin McKelleIf you’re a fan of big band, this is the record you’ve been waiting for!  Just released on the LA-based indie label, Cheap Lullaby Records, Introducing Robin McKelle features a stunning collection of the standards.  McKelle’s lyrical interpretations are breathtaking and not only will Introducing Robin McKelle get you swingin’…it’ll put the Lindy back in your Hop!

Accompanying McKelle on this CD are a host of very talented musicians and from the first note of Something’s Gotta Give, you’ll realize this is something special.  Their swinging versions of this Johnny Mercer number, as well as Cole Porter’s Night & Day are nothing short of spectacular and taking you back in time the latter song features a gorgeous trombone solo by Andy Martin.  Then For All We Know lets you live a lifetime in a moment with fine orchestrations, haunting lyrics and a longing tenor sax serenade (Pete Christleib).  You Brought A New Kind of Love adds a nostalgic feel to this record with a lovely duet between Robbie Wycoff and McKelle.  Playing wistfully off one another, his old-school vocals complement her alto expressions perfectly! Then for those particularly flirty moments, let McKelle wow you with her interpretation of The Andrew Sisters’ Bei Mir Bist Du Schon.  Latin rhythms plus an exciting trumpet solo by the song’s arranger, Willie Murillo add extra oomph to this hot little number.

There’s something very comforting about the standards.  Perhaps it’s the charming lyrics, maybe it’s the eternal melodies, but one thing’s for sure…the emotions are real and they’re performed beautifully on this record.  Introducing Robin McKelle is a knock-your-socks-off gem!
