Trumpeter Josh Lawrence is one of the most compelling young bandleaders and composers in modern jazz. Each of his sets tonight will be split between two configurations that are sure to keep things interesting. The first half of the set will feature a quintet comprised of saxophonist Caleb Curtis, drummer Anwar Marshall, and the always magnificent Curtis Brothers—Luques Curtis and Zaccai Curtis—on bass and piano. After a few tunes, they’ll add Brent White on trombone and Adan Faulk on the Fender Rhodes keyboard for a performance of Lawrence’s Chamber Music America commission, “Lost Works.” This double-feature concert format will provide audiences with a broad look at what this exciting young composer, trumpeter, and bandleader has to offer.
