For his soon-to-be-released eighth album on ECM Records, The Other Side, pianist Tord Gustavsen returns to the piano trio setting that first brought him to worldwide attention in 2003. His website gets it right: “The elements of Gustavsen's work remain intact—a paradoxical blend of simplicity, quietude, and sensuality built on the hymns of his youth, a Nordic kind of blues, and an instinct for composition.” He’ll be joined tonight by his trio mates from the recording: Sigurd Hole on bass and Gustavsen’s longstanding collaborator Jarle Vespestad on drums.
