Kevin Stevenson StudioOne of the most interesting aspects of checking out new artists making waves on the contemporary jazz scene is realizing that in many cases, they've been with us all along. So as we allow ourselves to be seduced by and groove along to Kevin Stevenson's infectious new single "Talk to Me," we can read up on the veteran drummer, composer and producer's eclectic resume that includes vibing with the likes of Cecil Bridgewater, South African musician tony Cedras, Me'Shell N'Degeocello, Arturo O'Farrill and the multi-Grammy winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir – in addition to skinning for various Broadway and off-Broadway musical productions.

A sensual, dreamily melodic, light funk slice of breezy light funk cool, "Talk to Me" – the follow up to Stevenson's cosmopolitan flavored debut track "Movin'" – is a free-flowing, true ensemble jam featuring top session and touring musicians – most prominently, Ms. Jordan Pettay (Christian McBride) on the spirited, emotional alto sax that carries Stevenson's memorable lead melody. Others in the band include keyboardist Matt Carvin, bassist Kevin Ellis (Mulgrew Miller, Keith Richards) and guitarists Bill White (Chaka Khan, Dave Koz) and Phil Hamilton (Anita Baker, Luther Vandross). Though released in the spring, "Talk To Me" is the perfect musical conversation starter, an ideal soundtrack to a balmy, chill summer evening where fun and maybe a little steamy romance are in the mix.
