The annual Uptown Jazz Festival will return to North Long Beach in August and the headliner is, drum roll please, the “The Queen Of Percussion” herself: Sheila E.

The “Glamorous Life” singer will perform on day two of the free Aug. 20-21 concert at Houghton Park.

But before she takes the main stage, the 10th annual event will begin on Friday Aug. 20 with the “All-White Attire Party” starting at 4:30 p.m.

Yes, attendees are expected to dress up in your best whites for the four-hour concert headlined by soul singer Sy Smith.

Most of the music will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21, with a lineup that includes more than a dozen acts on two stages.

Artists set to perform on day two include North Long Beach-based R&B, funk and jazz group DW3, who are regular performers at the festival, as well as old school funk band Biscuits & Gravy, Long Beach native blues and jazz singer Shy But Flyy and New Blues Revolution.

The festival, which took place online last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, is organized by Long Beach Vice Mayor Rex Richardson and presented in partnership with council members Mary Zendejas and  Roberto Uranga.

The theme this year is “In This Together,” which is meant to promote a healthy summer with a focus on health-related resources, COVID-19 outreach and education as well as on-site vaccinations and testing.
